About Me

My photo
I am second generation Californian with Apache and Yaqui ancestors. Yes I was born in them there hills of Los Angeles. The Yaqui were hard workers and while working on the railroads in the southwest traveled and sometimes lived on the trains with their families. Refugio Savala the Yaqui Poet lived this lifestyle and called himself a "Hobo" with humor. My Greatgrandfather and many of his family worked on the railroad also which afforded them many opportunities. This Blog is in honor of my Great Grandfather Reyes Torres.

Rodriguez El Rey Los Angeles

(this is actually a record, note hole in middle)
It was late at night and I wanted to stay after the concert to meet Rodriguez and to get autograph and  t-shirt. I knew that I would probably be able to see him again sometime or be able ask the question that first caught my attention, his family coming to America in the 1920's when the Mexican Revolution was subsiding. I was looking for others from Northern Mexico trying to find connections to my GGrandmother Francisca Rodriguez whom we knew little about because she died young. Not so far fetched being that that is where genealogical searches begin.
Most people who left Mexico during that time were "Indio" because that is what the Revolution was all about...social injustice.
Well it looks like that won't happen for sometime being that he will be in South Africa and Australia the coming New Year so unless I want to travel thousands of miles it won't happen. Maybe I should have stayed longer and toughed it out. Everything is selling out in a few hours after going on sale! Here's to could of should of....

A Heart Warming Story

Here's the key , Free from oppressive debt, addictions, lifestyles. I think of how some people live trying to live up to the "status quo" which can be oppressive initself. Good advise from a parent..

L.A. Color (at Dollartree Store;)

http://lacolors.com/
Today when I went to the dollar store I found some "L.A." color cosmetics. It caught my eye because I laugh at how some companies pub "L.A." on products to sell and they are not in L.A.....well this company is and their mascara was great! It was a 3" tube which fits nicely in a small bag. Seems to be a nice variety of products to try in great fashion forward colors.

How to do the behive/bump hairdo....

I have some trouble keeping my fine hair put and have worn this style for sometime now because, well, it is very LA. LOVE it!
Nick Chavez Beverly Hills Products: It is a difficult look to achieve! I would use my Horsetail Root lifting spray, Volumizing Mist, and a really hard hairspray like my Plump 'n Thick, or Diva :)
Then I use the variegated tooth ratail comb and nonslip ponytail tie. Tease the back crown section first then the front, don't forget to do the sides of the sections also. The ratail comb can be used to lift sections. Nick's products really help if you have straight fine hair like mine.

Jevelle Cosmetics

http://www.acneclear.com/Alpha-Lipoic-Acid-Trio.htm

As I am looking at my earlier post "Tangerine Tango" and loving the find for it works so well I have next to my lipstick my Firm Protect Repair Creme which does just that. It was very reasonable and made in the USA not to mention natural and organic, also distributed out of Los Angeles. Great products without all the advertising which you pay for! It says it is for Acne prone skin but my sking is way past that stage and I get great results from this product. I also use the Jevelle Soy Serum which makes my skin feel like a baby's!

Tangerine Tango and Jordana Cosmetics

http://www.jordanacosmetics.com/

On my quest for Tangerine Tango Lipstick I found the above brand at a very reasonable price. They carry it at Kmart but the nearest Kmart to me is some distance away so I ordered it online and was very happy with their quick service and the quality of the lipstick. The Tangerine Tango is Matt but if you want a gloss they also carry a clear one. The lipstick lasts all day...I also got the nail polish and a few other things to qualify for the 'free shipping' and just tested it out on one toe (no time for the rest) it work quite nicely with great coverage.
This line is also made in the USA!
